Cooperating lateral cavities and locking tabs are distributed around the circumference of opposing flanges (10-15) of adjoining pairs of ring sections (2-5). The result is a bayonette joint (9) between the two ring sections which also prevents the latter from rotating relative to each other. A compost vessel (6) comprises a number of ring-shaped vessel sections made from plastic, a ventilated base plate (7) and a lid (8). The opposing flanges of the adjoining pairs of ring sections have lateral cavities and locking tabs distributed around their circumference. The width of these cavities varies and they combine with the tabs to form a bayonette joint between the adjacent ring sections, as well as creating a rotation-preventing snap-fit lock to keep at least one tab in a locking position. The joint is formed by inserting the tabs into cavities and twisting the ring sections relative to each other.
