PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium driver that can easily manage a relative relation of a contacting and parting direction between a surface of a recording medium and a head within a narrow permissible range. SOLUTION: The recording medium driver comprises a drum type recording medium 1 that is driven, an annular slider 6 that is fitted to an outer circumferential face of the recording medium 1 through a lubricant liquid film in a track direction in a freely reciprocating way, a recording or reproducing head 7 supported by the slider 6, and a head movement section 10 that reciprocatingly drives the slider 6 with the head 7 in the track direction of the recording medium 1. Thus, with a very simple method of having only to fit the drum type recording medium 1 to the annular slider 6 the respective diameters of which are managed within the permissible tolerance, even when the attribute of the recording medium driver A is changed in every direction, the gap between the surface of the recording medium 1 and the head 7 can be managed by the thickness of the lubricant liquid film and the recording medium driver can record or reproduce data with high accuracy.
