PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a switched reluctance motor in which stabilized starting and extremely low speed rotation can be realized by suppressing variation of torque being generated at the time of starting or extremely low speed rotation and stabilized motor characteristics can be ensured even in case of reverse rotation. SOLUTION: In the driving method of a switched reluctance motor where coils wound round a plurality of salient poles of a stator are excited sequentially and a rotor having a plurality of salient poles is rotated, next phase being subjected to main excitation is subjected to auxiliary excitation while exciting a main excitation phase before the salient poles of the stator and rotor of an excited main excitation phase are superposed only at the time of starting and extremely low speed rotation.
