PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for assembling an axial sliding type optical pickup device which is capable of stably bonding an act base member and shaft holding base member of the device to each other in always exact relative positions. SOLUTION: This axial sliding type optical pickup device has a tool body 19 which has a communicative connection hole 22 for communicatively connecting an insertion recess 21 disposed in an upper part to be inserted with the shaft holding base member 2 and a housing space 20 in a lower part and is provided with a plurality of positioning sections 30, 32 and 33 for positioning the shaft holding base member 2 and the act base member 1 in the top surface part, a metallic holding cylindrical body 23 which is freely slidably inserted into the communicative connection hole 22 from the insertion recess 21 and is fitted with a bearing cylindrical section 11 for holding the supporting shaft 12 of the shaft holding base member 2, a pressure receiving member 24 which is connected to the bottom end of the holding cylindrical body 23 within the housing space 20 and an elastic member 29 which projects the top en of the holding cylindrical body 23 from the top end opening of the insertion recess 21 by upwardly energizing the pressure receiving member 24 within the housing space 20.
