PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmitter which performs optimal data processing according to the data quantity of a file even if a large quantity of data is scanned. SOLUTION: A filing system mounting document management software informs an MFP of the capacity of a desired storage device for storing data when information of the data quantity of the file obtained by scanning an original is given from the MFP (S11). The MFP compares a file capacity to be transmitted to the filing system with the free capacity of the storage device (S12) and transmits file to the storage device when the file capacity is smaller (NO at S12, processing III). When the file capacity is larger, the file is compressed and divided or transmitted to another storage device (S13 to S17).
