The invention relates to a device for placing a transponder implant (14) used for identifying animals, whereby a part of the device, which comes into contact with the tissue (15) when placing the transponder (14), has a constructive feature in that a tissue sample (3) is detached when said part is inserted into the tissue (15) or removed therefrom. This tissue sample (3) remains inside a sample compartment on the device.
