The control method has the actual value provided by a displacement measuring device (16) compared with a required value for provision of an output value, used for calculation of the required operating time for the DC motor (14) for operation of the linear actuator (12) or lifting cylinder, dependent on the motor rotation direction, with corresponding control of the motor. An Independent claim for a control device for an electrically-operated linear actuator or lifting cylinder is also included.
