A porous inorganic material which is thermally and hydrothermically stable up to 500[deg]C. The material can by used in catalysts by impregnation with aluminum or other active metals. A porous inorganic material, which is thermally and hydrothermically stable up to 500[deg]C, has wall portions defining mesopore sized channels with a mean diameter of 15-100 Å and a narrow diameter distribution of less than 30 Å . The material has a void volume of at least 0.1cc/g and a surface area of at least 500 m2>/g. The material also has a least 1.5 mmol of hydroxyl groups per gram of material. Aluminum is deposited on the inorganic material with at least 60 wt.% of the aluminum being tetrahedrally coordinated with the inorganic material. Independent claims are also included for (1) a porous inorganic material prepared by forming a solution of a hydrolyzable inorganic compound with tensoactive organic compounds and inducing growth of a solid composition consisting of the inorganic material in close contact with the organic material, the organic molecules then being extracted using a solvent to provide the porous inorganic material; and (2) A catalytic composition containing the inorganic porous material, where other active metals may be dispersed over the inorganic porous material to provide a metal dispersion of at least 15%.
|
