Word interleaving method, by sequentially interleaving using depth which is less than total depth

A word (X) has a total depth (D). Sequential interleaving steps (i) are used which have a depth (ni) which is less than or equal to the total depth (D). The interleaving depths (ni) are taken from a sequence of prime factors. Essentially, masking and multiplication is used. The word may be loaded into a processor register, the steps repeated, with bits masked from certain bit positions, and multiplying with a factor. An Independent claim is also included for a de-interleaving method.
