A process for dismantling an apparatus (6) composed of a housing (12) and internal components (15), comprises filling the housing with a sprayable or flowing material, which can be hardened, so the material distributes itself around the components, and then hardening it. The apparatus is then cut into individual elements that are easy to transport. The material is then returned to e.g. the liquid phase by heating.
