The torque sensor has a sensor device (9) with a piezoelectric or magnetostrictive sensor element (12) incorporated in a flange coupling (3) between a drive shaft (1) and a driven shaft (2), for providing a measuring signal representing the torque, dependent on the stress between the flange coupling halves, supplied to an electronic evaluation circuit (10).
