PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method that can improve the coefficient of performance of a refrigerating machine for producing a hydrate slurry by using a hydrate slurry as a cold heat transfer medium capable of utilizing sensible heat and latent heat and having a high heat density. SOLUTION: In operating a refrigerating machine (1) for producing a hydrate slurry used as a cold heat transfer medium by cooling an aqueous solution of a guest compound which produces a hydrate, the method for operating a refrigerating machine for producing a hydrate slurry comprises producing a hydrate slurry having a heat density which is controlled so as to be varied in accordance with a cold-heat load.
