PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fragrant material having intense fragrance with more characteristic fragrant quality as a fragrance to be used in fragrant products including toiletries and cosmetics, and to provide a fragrant composition containing the above material. SOLUTION: This fragrant material is an optically active ester, i.e., a (1R,2 R)-2-tert-butylcyclohexanol fatty acid ester selected from the group consisting of (1R,2R)-2-tert-butylcyclohexyl formate, (1R,2R)-2-tert-butylcyclohexyl acetate, (1R,2R)-2-tert-butylcyclohexyl propionate, (1R,2R)-2-tert-butylcyclohexyl butyrate and (1R,2R)-2-tert-butylcyclohexyl pentanoate.
