OPTICAL CONNECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that an external force operates on an internal ferrule when a housing slants. SOLUTION: An optical connector which is inserted into a cylindrical adapter for connection to abut against another optical connector inserted into the same adapter is constituted as mentioned below. (1) a ferrule fitted with an optical fiber is stored in a storage part of a housing so that the ferrule can move along the axis of an optical fiber and (2) the ferrule stored in the storage part is always pushed forward by an elastic member along the axis of the optical fiber; and (3) a clearance is provided between the internal surface of the storage part and the external surface of the ferrule and (4) the clearance is of such size that even if the optical connector inserted into the adapter for connection slants in the adapter at a maximum, the internal surface of the storage part and the external surface of the ferrule do not come into contact with each other.
