PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide device having a linear motor of less wear out. SOLUTION: The guide device comprises a guide shaft 2 and a column 3 externally inserted therein, the column 3 supported movably on the guide shaft 2. The guide shaft 2 is provided with a pair of opposed permanent magnets 5. The column 3 is provided adjacent to an outer periphery face 2b of the guide shaft 2 and has an electromagnetic coil 6, opposed to the permanent magnets 5 and a plurality of rotatable outer rings (rotors) 11 for rolling on the rolling surface of the guide shaft 2. To detect the movement position of the column 3 with respect to the guide shaft 2, a sensor 9 is provided for detecting a scale value for a magnet scale which is mounted on the guide shaft 2.
