<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a further high-speed modulation by preventing optical loss by forming a metal film in a region which is not on an optical waveguide but on an electrically conductive transparent film, and to minimize a degree of superposition without superposing 100% as before when arranging part of metal film so that it is superposed on the optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide device is formed of an optical substrate 1 having an elctro-optic effect, at least one optical waveguide 3 formed near the surface of the optical substrate, and the electrically conductive transparent film such that covers part of the optical waveguide. The optical waveguide device is provided with a first electrode 6a for applying an electric field to the optical waveguide, a second electrode 8b paired with the first electrode and for applying an electric field to the optical waveguide, and third electrode 8a formed of a metal film at a position other than approximately just above the optical waveguide 3 and electrically connected to the first electrode.</p> |
