The production of a multi-layer stretch knitted material, with determined lateral stability and elasticity, uses a basic knitted structure in at least one layer with rows of stitches with a majority of floats. The float length is at least the gap between two active needles, and the floats are offset from each other in successive rows. The lateral stability is partially determined by altering the float length. Also claimed is a fabric where the layers have different numbers of stitches and/or wales. |
