PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of detecting a can body of which the flange part is deformed while feeding the can body at a high speed. SOLUTION: An optical sensor 1 for detecting the body part of the can 27 and an optical sensor 2, which is arranged under the optical sensor 1 to detect the region slightly above the flange 23 immediately after the body of the can 27 is detected by the optical sensor 1, are arranged on the lateral part of a conveyor 9 feeding the can 27 of which the flange part 23 is turned downward. At the point of time when the body part of the fed can is detected by the optical sensor 1, the optical sensor 2 emits a detection signal to judge that there is deformation in the flange part 23 of the can body.
