PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine-N-oxyl by oxidizing an N-unsubstituted 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine with hydrogen peroxide to 2,2,6,6-tetra-methylpiperidine-N-oxyl wherein the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide used in the reaction is suppressed to save the consumption and the yield of the product is raised. SOLUTION: In this production process for 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidinne-N- oxyl, 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl is used as a catalyst in the oxidation of N-unsubstituted 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidine with hydrogen peroxide.
