PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for extinguishing red heated coke are provided to improve quality of coke and prevent environmental pollution and safety accidents by preventing residual fire and excessive water spraying during extinguishing of the red heated coke to maintain proper coke moisture quality target of 2 to 3%. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for extinguishing the red heated coke in a quenching tower that is divided into a plural sections correspondingly to quenching cars(130-1,130-2,130-3) in which red heated coke extruded from coke oven chamber is loaded, the apparatus for extinguishing red heated coke comprises a plural water pumps(20,21,22) that are installed in a plural sections of the quenching tower respectively; a plural rows of pipe which are connected to the water pumps respectively to supply water thereto and arranged perpendicularly to a proceeding direction of the quenching cars(130-1,130-2,130-3), and on which a plural water spray nozzles(10-1,11-1,12-1) are installed; temperature measuring means(44) and level measuring means(42) which are installed in front of the quenching tower to which the quenching car(130) approaches to measure temperature and loading level of red heated coke loaded into the quenching cars(130-1,130-2,130-3); car position sensing sensors(50,60) for discriminating the quenching cars(130-1,130-2,130-3) to classify the temperature and loading level of red heated coke measured by the temperature measuring means and level measuring means per quenching cars(130-1,130-2,130-3); and a control means(100) for controlling operation of the plural water pumps(20,21,22) respectively to control water spray amount and water spray time of water sprayed onto the quenching cars(130-1,130-2,130-3) respectively according to signals transmitted from the temperature measuring means and level measuring means and the car position sensing sensors(50,60). |
