PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and highly accurately detecting a multiple chain nucleic acid. SOLUTION: This method for detecting the nucleic acid comprises detecting a hybrid multiple chain nucleic acid with light emitted from a multiple chain nucleic acid-affinitive compound which is represented by formula (I) [R<1> is an alkyl or an aryl; Q is O, S, N(R), or the like; A is an atom group necessary for forming an azacyanine pigment residue; X is a counter anion to the azacyanine pigment residue; (n) is 0 to 2; L<1> is a divalent linker for connecting IC to either of R<1> to R<4> , Q, and A; (III) is 0 or 1; IC is a multiple chain nucleic acid-affinitive group; (r) is 1 to 4; L<2> is a divalent linker for connecting SIG to IC; SIG is a pigment residue; (p) is 0 or 1; (t) is 0 to 3, provided that (r)+(t)>=2]. |
