PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage controller capable of stabilizing voltage control by preventing the generation of the voltage drop of a power supply line due to the saturation of a serial transformer at the time of tap switching. SOLUTION: In the voltage controller, the gate of an AC switch 17 arranged in a by-pass circuit 6 is de-blocked, and the gate of a thyristor in a conductive state is blocked, and the current of AC switches 12 and 16 for tap selection are temporarily moved to the by-pass circuit 6, and all AC switches 11-16 for tap selection are turned off, and the switches 11 and 16 for the next tap selection are newly gate de-blocked, and the AC switch 17 of the by-pass circuit 6 is gate blocked so that tap switching can be executed. The voltage controller is provided with a tap selecting device 100 capable of gate de-blocking the AC switches 11 and 16 of the AC switch circuit 3 connected to a secondary coil 4b of the serial transformer 4 near the sine wave peak value of the secondary voltage of a control transformer.
