PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cold cathode in a discharge tube which has long life time and has stable luminescence operation of high luminance. SOLUTION: It is the cold cathode of the discharge tube, which has the cold cathode in the tip part of an lead wire, which is sealed in the end part of a glass tube, in which a rare gas and mercury are sealed. The cold cathode has titanium and high fusing point metal, and further has elements which are one or more kinds of elements, that are oxidized easily rather than the high- fusing point metal, and the fusing point of the oxide of the element that are easily oxidized has higher fusing point than that of the oxide of the above high-fusing point metal.
