METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING DEPOSITED BODY OF GLASS FINE PARTICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a deposited body of glass fine particles which has a small region in the end of the body where the outer diameter gradually decreases to the top side, and to improve the efficiency in the drawing process of an optical fiber. SOLUTION: In the period from just before the completion of the deposition process of glass fine particles to the completion, gas jet flow containing no glass source material is blown to near the interface between the end part of the glass fine particles already deposited around the start material and the part where the glass fine particles are not yet deposited so as to interfere with the flame 4 of the glass source material. The gas jet flow may be produced by oxyhydrogen flame or inert gas.
