PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of making an appearance inspection of high yield by positively detecting foreign matter such as fibrous dirt appearing as an image of low brightness and an abnormal emission point of low brightness caused by the runout of adhesive resin. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a light source 6 for backlighting a liquid crystal panel 1 of a liquid crystal module M, and a CCD camera 8 for picking up the image of the whole surface of the illuminated liquid crystal display panel. An image signal of the liquid crystal display panel 1 picked up by the CCD camera is processed to detect a density change, and the density change is compared with a predetermined value to determine the quality. The foreign matter such as fibrous dirt appearing as the image of low brightness, and the abnormal emission part of low brightness caused by the runout of adhesive resin, are thereby detected positively to allow the appearance inspection of high yield.
