摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small optical waveguide device and a method for manufacturing the device at low cost in which device the variation in optical path due to a variation in temperature does not occur substantially for a practical use and a light transmission loss is small. SOLUTION: The device is provided with an array waveguide 4 as a core, a substrate 1 encloses the periphery of the core and is a clad having the refractive index is smaller than that of the core and an upper clad layer 10, the core and the clad are integrally jointed so that an expansion or a contraction due to the variation in temperature take place substantially according to the characteristic of the clad and the materials of the core and clad are so selected that the variation in the optical path length according to the expansion or the contraction of the clad due to the variation in temperature is cancelled out with the variation in the optical path according to the variation in the refractive index of the core due to the variation in temperature.
