PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal vapor electric discharge lamp of long life time and high lamp efficiency. SOLUTION: It consists of an outer tube 1, to which an enclosure part 1a is formed and a cap 2 is attached, a luminescence tube 3a, which is prepared in the outer tube 1, and in which electrodes are equipped in its inside, and a sleeve 4 which has an opening part at the enclosure part 1a side of the outer tube 1 surrounding the luminescence tube 3a, and a supporter 8 which supports the sleeve 4 by the opening part. The supporter 8 has a post part 10 separated from the opening face of the sleeve 4, and sleeve holding parts 11a and 11b which hold the sleeve 4 at the both ends of the post part 10. Moreover, the supporter 8 is connected to an electric supplier 6a which is connected to the electrode and projected to the enclosure part 1a side, and to the electric power supplying line 15, extended towardly of the cap 2 side within the outer tube 1, respectively.
