PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle recognizing device with which the positions of edges on the same vehicle can be accurately recognized, and a device for detecting distance between vehicles with which a distance between vehicles can be accurately detected on the basis of a maximum width between edges even when the result of the distance between vehicles acquired by a means for detecting distance between vehicles is not reliable. SOLUTION: At least four edges (at least one of vertical and horizontal edges) are detected from an area where a vehicle is present, the ratio of the width between the edges is calculated and compared for each frame and an edge with which the ratio is not changed is recognized as an edge on the same vehicle. The width between the edges positioned on the outer-most side among the edges recognized to be detected from the same vehicle is calculated and used for matching with data of a distance between vehicles acquired by a laser radar 10 as a maximum width, and the distance between the vehicles is calculated on the basis of the maximum width between the edges. |
