The drilling tube has a cover [2] and a tube [3] that are welded together using a capacitive discharge welding process. .The assembly has an upper electrode [1] and in the centre is a spreader [5] set into a clamping collett [6]. The end of the tube at the weld region [B] has a chamfered edge.
