FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: methanol and/or dimethyl ether is converted in presence of a dilutant, preferably steam and/or unreactive organic compound, on a series of fixed catalyst-bed reactors, each of reactors receiving a certain amount of raw material, whereas part of gas products from this reactor is recycled back to the inlet of the same reactor so providing required partial pressure over the series of reactors and maintaining low partial pressure of metoxy compound in each reactor.
