A fluid for automotive traction drives which comprises (A) a hydrocarbon compound having two bridged rings selected among a bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane ring, bicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring, bicyclo[3.3.0]octane ring, and bicyclo[2.2.2.]octane ring and (B) a hydrocarbon compound having a quaternary carbon and/or ring structure and having a dynamic viscosity at 40°C of 10 mm<sp>2</sp>/s or lower, and which has a viscosity at −40°C of 40,000 mPa·s or lower and a flash point of 140°C or higher. It has a high coefficient of traction at high temperatures and an extremely low viscosity at low temperatures. Also provided is a fluid for traction drives which contains a specific bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane derivative having a total carbon number of 14 to 17 and a viscosity index of 0 or higher, has improved viscosity−temperature characteristics, and combines low viscosity and improved low−temperature flowability.
