The invention relates to a device for housing compact discs or similar objects which comprises a tray (1) that slides in and out of a drawer-type receptacle (4). The inventive device also comprises a mechanical system (7, 9) that is used to raise and lower a base (8) when the tray slides out and in respectively. The base (8), which supports the disc or similar object that is to be housed, facilitates the insertion and removal of said disc and protects same against scratching, fingerprints and other damage. Two or more devices can be stacked in order to house more than one disc or similar object.
