928,469. Electric batteries. W. KREBS. Jan. 26, 1961, No. 3101/61. Class 53. A combined primary and secondary cell comprises an alkaline accumulator having positive plates 1 and a negative 2 with dissolving primary plates 3. Thus the cell can first be used as a primary cell until plates 3 are exhausted and then re-connected as a secondary cell. The dissolving plates are made of a non-conducting support impregnated with the dissolving metal and thus act as spacers when the metal is completely removed. Additional glass or plastic rods 5 and separated material 4 are provided. As shown a frangible plug 10 is provided and the electrolyte enters from a vessel 11 which may be separate from the cell. The cell is evacuated or is filled with an inert gas. |
