PURPOSE: Provided are a hybridoma cell line showing interleukin-6 dependent growth and a method for measuring the biological activity of interleukin-6 with high sensitivity by using the same. The monoclonal antibody produced from the cell line is useful for detection of hepatitis C virus and diagnosis thereof. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing interleukin-6 dependent hybridoma cell line, 2E9-IL6(ATCC HB11493) is characterized by separating spleen cell from the rat immunized with an antigen, fusing the spleen cell with B-lymphocyte myeloma cell, and continuously culturing the fuzed cell in a selection medium containing interleukin-6. The antigen is hepatitis C virus nonstructural protein 5.
