PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas, which is useful as a NOX cleaning catalyst used in an exhaust gas cleaning system using hydrogen, and which is able to reduce poisoning with CO in the exhaust gas and to prevent lowering of its catalytic performance, and to provide a method of cleaning the exhaust gas using the catalyst. SOLUTION: Ceria-alumina is obtained by uniformly dispersing ceria characterized in that the ratio (I200 /I111 ) of the integrated intensity I111 of the diffraction peak of (111) plane to the integrated intensity I200 of the diffraction peak of (200) plane in X-ray diffraction is higher than 0.4, in alumina, and the obtained ceria-alumina is used as a carrier matrix of a catalytic noble metal. |
