PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording material having a good conveyability, a conveying accuracy and a high gloss and to obtain an ink jet recording mate rial in which chalking of a pigment ink immediately after printing is improved. SOLUTION: The ink jet recording material comprises an ink acceptive layer containing inorganic fine particles having primary particles of a particle size of 3 to 30 nm and provided on one side surface of a water resistant support and a back coating layer containing an organic polymer and provided on an opposite side surface of the support. In this material, A is 1 to 5 μm, and A, B and C satisfy the equation: 0.6×A<=C/B<6, wherein A (μm) is a centerline mean roughness Ra at a cut-off value of 0.8 mm specified according to JIS-B-0601 of the surface having the back coating layer of the support, B (g/cm<3> ) is a density of the organic polymer of the coating layer, and C (g/m<2> ) is a solid coating amount of the organic polymer.
