PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for remotely controlling an air conditioner are provided to obtain pleasant environment in a house by driving the air conditioner by using a telephone before a user enters the house. CONSTITUTION: A method for remotely controlling an air conditioner includes the steps of monitoring a power failure when the air conditioner is operating(200), supplying power source to the air conditioner by using a battery(210), recognizing the power failure through a main controller(220), transmitting a power failure generation signal to a telecontroller(230), connecting a telephone call between the telecontroller and a telephone of a user for transmitting the power failure generation signal(240), and confirming the abnormal operation of the air conditioner(250).
