PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a natural output image without making the image difficult to see due to overcorrection of a luminance value in gradation conversion. SOLUTION: A digital still camera 1 photographs the same object at different exposure amounts several times, and synthesizes a plurality of images obtained by photographing to produce an image with a wide dynamic range. Further, in compressing the gradation of the synthetic image with a wide dynamic range, a gradation conversion table is formed on the basis of a synthetic curve obtained by synthesizing a defined on the basis of a ratio of the number of gradations of the synthetic image to the number of gradations of an input image with a histogram indicating a luminance distribution of the synthetic image, and gradation compression is executed referring to this table. |
