PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relatively inexpensive device and method for inspecting printed wiring board for positions of holes by which inspection time can be shortened significantly. SOLUTION: The device which inspects a printed wiring board 1 for the positional accuracy of a plurality of holes made in the board 1 is provided with a light projecting means 20 which projects measuring light 25 having a beam diameter which is smaller than the diameters of the openings of the holes upon prescribed positions where the holes should exist and a detecting means 30 which detects the holes as normal holes when the means 30 receives the measuring light 35 through the holes and the quantities the received light 35 fall within a prescribed range of the light 25.
