PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform fingerprint matching with high matching performance by selecting a matching algorithm corresponding to various finger conditions or various fingerprint reading conditions in a fingerprint matching system for authenticating an individual with fingerprint image matching. SOLUTION: A fingerprint reader 15 reads the fingerprint image data of a user purchasing a portable telephone 20, also decides a pattern of the fingerprint and a characteristic of the dispersion of reading positions, etc., and selectively determines a fingerprint matching algorithm that fits this fingerprint characteristic. A fingerprint matching processing program fitting the fingerprint image is rewritten and registered together with the read finger print image data of the user purchasing the telephone in the portable telephone 20 by a writing device 17. In performing, for example, person himself/herself authentication processing based on a fingerprint at a connected site on a communication network by utilizing the portable telephone 20, fingerprint matching processing software registered in the portable telephone 20 performs fingerprint matching between the telephone user and the registered fingerprint. |
