PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymeric antibacterial agent having high antibacterial effect and good dispersion stability even in an anionic surfactant, and to provide a surfactant using the agent. SOLUTION: This antibacterial agent comprises a polymer having a polymer unit (1), a polymer unit (2) and a polymer unit (3) and ratios of each polymer unit are 10-70 wt.% polymer unit (1), 20-80 wt.% polymer unit (2) and 10-70 wt.% polymer unit (3), and a surfactant containing the antibacterial agent is also provided. (wherein, R<1> , R<3> and R<8> are each H or methyl; R<2> is H or a 1-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R<4> is a 2-8C alkylene; R<5> and R<6> are each a 1-5C alkyl; R<7> is a 1-5C alkyl, benzyl or a 1-5C alkyl benzyl; R<9> is a 1-22C alkyl or alkenyl; AO is oxyethylene or oxypropylene; n is a number of 1-50; and X<-> is a halogen ion, an inorganic anion or an organic anion.).
