PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce waste in plate making and downtime due to the non-conformity of plate making conditions by the erroneous selection of the kind of a master. SOLUTION: In a heat sensitive stencil master 61, a white porous resin film 206 having shading properties is laminated on a thermoplastic resin film 204, and a porous fiber film 208 is laminated on the film 206. A light transmitting part PL is formed in the area of a part of the feed side end part of the master 61 by the absence of the film 206. When transmitted light is detected by transmission type sensors 20a and 20b but not detected by transmission type sensors 20c and 20d, a control means judges that the master 61 of a proper kind is set properly and permits the start of plate making.
