PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a method of positioning optical axis for coupling by welding of an optical element package with a ferrule-coupling sleeve. SOLUTION: The end face of the ferrule-coupling sleeve 5 is pressed to the end face of the optical element package 4, by being pressed by a knife-edge shaped pressing member 35, that comes into inclined contact with three places on the circumference at the tip end of the ferrule coupling sleeve 5. Under such pressed state, the optical axis positioning is conducted, so that the end faces coupled by welding on the circumference, in the method of manufacturing the optical module.
