PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust and adsorb a valve clearance with a comparatively simple and compact structure using a reciprocating and rotational movement of a rocking cam 20. SOLUTION: On a lifter crown surface 30a of a valve lifter 30 for an intake valve, a movable shim 31 which can move in a slide direction P is intervaned between the rocking cam 20 which rocks in interlocking with a crankshaft within a prescribed range. A slide-contact piece 36 oscillated integrally with the rocking cam 20 is brought into sliding contact with the movable shim 31 to move the movable shim 31. As the movable shim 31 approaches/separates from the rocking cam 20 with the movement of the movable shim 31, a contact surface of the movable shim 41 coming into contact with the rocking cam 20 is made an inclined phase 31a which inclines to a lifter crown surface 20a.
