摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which makes it possible to an optimum display state by reducing the influence of electric fields from the edges of pixel electrodes and the adjacent pixels on liquid crystal molecules. SOLUTION: A first substrate 1 having a pixel electrode 4 and a second substrate 8 having a transparent electrode 11 are arranged to face each other and a liquid crystal 14 negative in dielectric constant anisotropy is held between the two substrates 1 and 8. Slits 6 are formed at the pixel electrode 4 and projections 12 corresponding to the silts 6 are formed at the second substrate 8. The substrates 1 and 8 are covered with vertical alignment layers 7 and 12. When the electric fields are impressed to the liquid crystal layer 14, the liquid crystal molecules 14 incline in the direction regulated by the projections 12 and the slits 6. The silts 6 are disposed in approximately parallel to the extension direction where the projections 12 exist and the segments of the contours of the slits 6 facing the projections 12 are formed in a direction deviated by a correction angle with respect to the extension direction of the silts 6.
