Separator comprises a fall shaft, a first classifying stage, and a second classifying stage. Separator comprises: a fall shaft (1) having a collision element (1c) with a material to be separated on its upper end (1a); a first classifying stage (2) having an opening (2a) connected to the lower end of the shaft, an inlet opening (2b) for separated air (7), a first delivery opening (2c) for coarse material (8) from the first classifying stage, and a second delivery opening (2d) for the separated air and the fine material contained in it, and a riser shaft (3) connected to the second delivery opening (2d) of the first classifying stage; and a second classifying stage (4) having a delivery opening (4a) connected to the riser shaft, a first delivery opening (4b) for coarse material (9) from the second classifying stage, a second delivery opening (4c) for the separated air and the fine material contained in it, and a separating unit connected to the second delivery opening of the second classifying stage and having a first delivery opening (5a) for the very fine material (10) and a second delivery opening (5b) for the separated air (7). Preferred Features: The first and second classifying stages are formed as static separators. The fall and riser shafts are vertically structured. The first classifying stage is preferably formed as a cross-current, counter-current or fluidized bed device. The second classifying stage is preferably formed as a deviating separator.
