Method and apparatus for coldworking holes using a reusable tubular seamless sleeve (24) made of shape memory alloys (SMA). The SMA sleeve having superelasticity property is prelubricated and is used with a mandrel (1) having a major diameter portion, an end-cap (28) with rough surface, and adapting-spacer (23) having a rough complementary surface. The method involves placing the sleeve firmly between the rough surfaces of the end-cap and the adapting-spacer, carried on a mandrel puller (4), passing forward the major diameter portion of the mandrel through the sleeve whose diameter is elastically expanded and thereafter shrinks to a size smaller than the diameter of a hole bore in a workpiece (34), inserting the sleeve into the hole, placing the end-cap against the workpiece, and retracting the mandrel, thereby elastically expanding the sleeve wall against the hole bore to transmit coldworking force to the bore. The sleeve diameter then shrinks to size smaller than the hole to ease sleeve removal. The superelastic SMA sleeve is reusable.
