PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine operating so as to optimize exhaust emission and capable of being surely operated over a long period of time to the utmost. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine 10, particularly, the internal combustion engine 10 for automobile comprises a fuel tank 32, at least one fuel pump 26, at least one fuel injection device 20 allowing fuel to reach the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine 10, and a leakage conduit 36. The leakage conduit is connected, on one side, to the air inlet 18 of the internal combustion chamber and connected, on the other side, to the fuel pump 26. The leakage conduit 36 is connected to a lubricant separator 42.
