The invention relates to the use of active-ingredient combinations consisting of a) alpha -lipoic acid and b) one or more dermatologically compatible substances that absorb light in the UV-A and/or UV-B wavelength range(s). Said combinations are used for producing cosmetic or dermatological preparations for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of symptoms of intrinsic and extrinsic ageing of the skin and for the treatment and prophylaxis of the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation on the skin.
