The drive train operating method provides drive control signals (22) for the engine (2) and gearbox control signals (21) for the gearbox (3), in dependence on the power required by the driver, with selection of the driving mode, used in conjunction with the local position of the automobile for determining the drive control signals and the gearbox control signals. An Independent claim for an electronically-controlled drive train for an automobile is also included.
